First off let me qualify this by saying I realize you have far more important things on your plate, feel free to just give this a cursory glance or blow it off entirely.

I'm sitting here on my mac, trying to get AR X to run via wine bottler. So far, I have the following installed:

- SDL
- Visual C++ 2010 Libraries
- DirectDrawRenderer to OpenGL
- glut OpenGL Library

The program launches but the graphics are all scrambled. I'm wondering if as you look at my list, you see something obvious missing. Is there some additional library your making calls against or something? If I can get it working, I will happily upload the wine wrapper here so other Linux/Mac folk can enjoy the AR X goodness.

Re: Wine Support

ARX uses SFML not SDL as its media library. Sfml in turn uses OpenGL to do all it's display stuff even 2D.

SFML is available on mac and Linux so I would like to put together native ports at some point. If you're interested in helping with this let me know.

Re: Wine Support

I was actually able to get this working. In the end, I used wineskin, and simply installed the Visual C++ 2010 libraries using winetricks. Initially, it still came up with a screen full of garbage, however, pressing the "F" key and changing the font fixed it. Once it was rendering properly, I could choose any font setting and everything was happy.

Good to hear its working - is the performance ok? I've noticed just yesterday that depending on the colour depth of your desktop (or emulation in your case I guess) the smoothed font can appear as blocks of white and blue rather than letters. A quick fix might be for me to change the default font back to the 2 colour original.

Re: Wine Support

Actually performance is quite good. No issues there at all (although my machine is a beast).

If you'd like me to test it with the font change, let me know. Also, I'm happy to provide the wine wrapper if you want to make it available to others. It's about 40mb without AR included.

I am currently testing 0.75 in wine for linux and it is running well. The only time it has crashed has been when I encountered flame demons, and I think that may be something internal to the game. Otherwise, it has worked great!

Tried running ARX 0.75 and 0.74 on Mac OSX 10.10.5 with WINE, and although older versions worked, these new ones fail. Tried running straight in WINE, and also tried using Winebottler with MS Visual C++ 2010 bottled with it.  THe game initially seems to run, let's me try creating a city character, and as soon as I hit the spacebar, the sound effects go, I am 'joined', and then it crashes (presumaly as it attempts to shift to actual gameplay)

Would love to keep playing this game. Not expecting answers from people, but any helpful suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,

I've no experience of using Wine or Wineskin but I am planning a Mac OS version over the next few months. Hopefully someone else can help out with that. If I get the chance to try it myself I will.

For me it would probably be better to focus on a native version. From testing SFML with xcode in recent months I've noticed that xcode complains about me using a deprecated sound library or something similar. I can't remember when I first saw it but am currently using Sierra. The sound works fine for me though (on a simple SFML Mac OS test program).

Thanks for your interest.

Once I get some of the current bugs out of the way I'll be working on the native Mac version.
